YUMMMMM!!!!
Small, unassuming and unlike most restaurants in this part of the world not… I repeat NOT Mexican. A combination of Salvadoran and Honduran cuisine which to my little Latina soul is like perfection! Situated in a predominantly Hispanic area of Garland, this little spot advertises itself as a Pupuseria. The neighborhood is of course familiar with Salvadoran food with a fairly large community of Salvadorans nearby they are not as familiar with Honduran food. Of course to the average white bread American the differences are subtle at best. Pupusas are Salvadoran and this place does them very well. If you have had one before usually we are talking a cheese stuffed tortilla. They are usually very bland and although yummy not that exciting. Traditionally though, cheese is usually paired with meat. So, if you take my advice and take a trip to Garland, try the pupusa with Chicaron. Speaking Spanish is a plus, but the menu has a version in English, so you won’t be ordering blind. I like the Plato typico which includes:
A Honduran Tamale (wrapped in Banana leaves)
A pupusa with cabbage slaw

Yucca Frita and Chicharon
Maduros
and black beans with creama. With all that your tummy is full and your soul content. If you feel like something less humble, on Sunday’s they often have a Sopa De Mariscos.

Also on offer, Fresh Juices, Mexican Cokes in BIG bottles (the little ones are just regular American Coke). Smile big, chat up the owner and enjoy a little bit of Central America here in North Texas.
