Ok this place is brand spankin new here in Dallas. I was invited by a friend for happy hour and I too had seen their promo in Daily Candy. So why not? So I drive to Knox/Henderson after work. Here is the first thing you need to know… there is stuff… cool stuff, past Cuba Libre. Just keep driving. (Ok I need to go back there was a COOL furniture consignment store down there too). Seriously once you pass all the mercados and over priced condos, there is another stretch of what looks to be up and coming restaurants. Seriously, who knew? I go in… its tiny… teeny tiny. Cute though… not bowl you over great decor, but it is nice. The bar is small, but nobody has found the place just yet… its been open a month. So we had it all to ourselves. My friends had champagne (two by the glass options! or course they are mysteriously placed under Rosé, so don’t miss em) and white wine. I on the other hand had a crap day and needed something with a bit more kick. I got a mixed drink… La Paloma. Tequila, some sort of Grapefruit juice… Pampolmas or some such… lime and much much suger. It was sweeter than expected, I missed the tartness of the grapefruit and did not taste much lime… but there was a salt rim and it was pretty good. I had two. We three gals ordered and appetizer… the Tuna with a black bean, corn mango relish that was prettier than it was tasty. It was hard to get on the fork as well. The tuna was nice, not as fresh as it should have been. It smelled just a bit fishy to me. It was ok, I would not order it again… but my gut was the escargot… so maybe that will be better next time. After lots of chit chat and laughter we decided that we needed something sweet… CHURROS! There were lots of tempting desserts and the smell of someone elses Creme Brulle really got us excited, but Churros were too much to resist. Three little servings with three little dipping sauces. Raspberry, Vanilla with Burbon ( I think) and Chocolate with Chile… We ordered two… They were awesome. Crispy, hot on the out side and soft and melt in your mouth perfect on the inside. All three dippers were good, but the chocolate was the BEST. It was thick like pudding, creamy, sweet, hot, lovely. The berry sauce was the weakest. I don’t think it matched that well with the Churros. No that it matters, cause those Churros and chocolate were so good. So… go, have dinner, bring a date (it is very romantical) and don’t forget to feed each other Churros before you go! Tell me how the entree’s are. We never got that far!
PS: there are pics of the cute bartender and the “eh” tuna in this slide show. Too bad the churros are not there! The food sure is pretty though!
